Saturday 29th August 2020 – Skegness – 6pm – Round 2 of The Chase 2020

24 August 2020 0 By bscda

This Saturday see the return of BriSCA F1 with Startrax who take this fixture on the road to Skegness Raceway in Lincolnshire after an agreement with Rob & Asha Speak.

The last time we visited Skegness was 10 months ago when it hosted the National Points Championship speed weekend where Bobby Griffin (166) and Luke Davidson (464) took victories in the two Grand Finals that weekend in very different weather conditions.

After Round 1 of The Chase at King’s Lynn, two of the three drivers who played their Jokers top of the points. John Dowson (94) leads the way with a 30 point gap between Willie Skoyles Jnr (541) and himself. Both drivers picked up their respective grade awards, sponsored by Teng Tools.

Only 4 points separate the next three places with Frankie Wainman Jnr (515), Paul Hines (259) and Lee Fairhurst (217) very quick all night. Wainman could well have found himself with a greater points haul had it not been for an electrical problem in his first heat meaning a DNF.

Mark Woodhull (335), Joe Nickolls (242) and Jake Harrhy (345) all had consistent results throughout the night, with Harrhy picking up a win in the first race of the 2020 season.

Craig Finnikin finds himself in 9th place after two non-points scoring races but placed well in his other two whilst white grader Darren Clark (83) will no doubt be proud of his results as he sneaks into the top 10, level on points with Finnikin and also picking up a grade award in the process.

As we switch surface for the first tarmac meeting of the season, it’s highly likely that new drivers will enter the points chase and will be interesting to see if any shale drivers decide to take the trip to gain further points in the chase for the rainbow roof.

In addition to The Chase for the Rainbow Roof, Saturday sees the return of former World Champion Murray Harrison (97) to the raceways for what son Ryan describes as “One last blast” in Ryan’s tarmac car so make sure you get your tickets soon before they are all gone!

The Chase 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the whole country to a standstill the week before our season was due to start back in March and with five months having passed, the decision was taken to postpone all major championships until 2021.

Once our sport was given the green light to finally get the season underway, albeit with a redueced capacity crowd, the fixture list was finally agreed and we now have eleven meetings until the end of the season on Sunday 8th November.

The eleven meetings are now officially known as “The Chase 2020 – BriSCA F1 Celebrate Our Frontline Workers”. The winner of this mini series will go down in history as the only person to win the title and will be allowed to display a Rainbow Roof for the 2021 season.

Fundraising has begun for The Chase 2020 and more information can be find via the GoFundMe page below:
